Monday 20th February 2017

It's almost worrying if the first date of a long tour goes so well...unless of course, this is actually a good show? I'm not sure, I like it a lot but it feels fragile at times - it might be a marmite kinda piece.

Either way, performance number two was up in Somerset. Chard to be precise. Train from Weymouth to Yeovil Pen, bus to Yeovil Bus Station, bust to Yeovil Junction, train to Axminster, bus to Chard.

Checked in at slightly overbearingly friendly B+B, and then down to my show. Another sold out one, not quite as lively as the opening show, as feared. The layout was a struggle, the audience were old. They had a big meal beforehand so the show was continually delayed - I was there for about 2 hours before doing anything.

This show is in 2 halves, roughly about 45 minutes each, with an interval. I wanted a faster start to the second half after yesterday's dip, which I think was achieved. Ultimately, it wasn't what they were expecting but they were still a really, really lovely audience, many of whom came up to me afterwards to praise the quality of the performance. Well done, Chard. Had a few beers with two old men, Jim and Tim, afterwards, before staggering back to my accommodation.
