Really excited about my new tour show, since the initial reading around Izzy's place I've added a new bit to it which I think takes it up a notch. The new ending is visually amazing, if complicated given the typical 15-minute changeover between shows.
Spent a bit of time touting myself around as a drum teacher (as nothing I do actually starts until 10th January which feels ages away) and organised a meeting with a few select people about forming a proper theatre group, that would be long-term and sustainable. Everyone's up for it and we'll meet on Friday.
Also, touted my services about as a drummer, as I've only got about 40-odd gigs in the diary for this year and I feel like I should be gigging every night. It's what I do.
Randomly accepted some extra work as a children's entertainer - flexible hours and the money looks good.
Seem to somehow be the owner of a third drum kit, picking it up later this week. A vintage Ludwig kit, that some contacts of mine found in their attic and were about to just dump in a skip. Madness! I mean, I don't need another kit, but cruelty to drums is not something I'd tolerate. And besides, with a bit of a clean-up and new heads, it could be a lovely set to play and gives me more options.
Can't stop reading a blog I've found, written by Paul W, the boss of the place I was freelancing in last year. It charts his progress from cancer diagnosis 9 years ago, right up till his death. It's heart breaking stuff, but profound till the end. I was chatting to him about work stuff around the latter stages of his blog and I had no idea he was going through all of this, he hid it so well. It's really moving and has got me thinking.
Evening had a stand-up gig; new material night locally. I closed the show, 10 minutes of all hastily written bits. About 3 minutes of it really works, and the audience were surprisingly onside throughout.
